Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Friday that Telangana can replicate the success it achieved in Information Technology, electronics, defence and aerospace, pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences and Global Capability Centres (GCCs), in the polymer sector as well.

Calling upon stakeholders in the industry to join hands with the government in making Telangana a leading hub for plastics and polymer manufacturing, he said, “Our doors are always open for constructive dialogue. We are committed to creating an environment where industry can grow with confidence.”

Mr. Sridhar Babu, who was speaking after inaugurating the plastics expo, HIPLEX 2026, said the plastics and polymer industry is one of the silent engines of India’s economy. It provides direct employment to nearly 50 lakh people and indirect employment to more than one crore people across the country. In Telangana alone, nearly two lakh families are dependent for their livelihood on this ecosystem.

The two Telugu States account for around 1.3 million tonnes of polymer consumption, a number expected to cross 2 MT by 2030, he said.

Asserting that the State Government believes industry and government are partners in development, he assured his department’s support if associations of plastic units All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA), TAAPMA and IPI submit a comprehensive representation highlighting issues affecting the industry and suggest policy interventions. Plastic processing, polymer compounding; packaging technologies; recycling and circular economy; bio-based and sustainable polymers; EV components and electronics manufacturing are some areas offering tremendous growth opportunities for plastics and polymer industry in Telangana. The State offers reliable power, skilled workforce, progressive industrial policies and has a government that believes in working alongside industry, the Minister said.

AIPMA Senior VP Anil Reddy Vennam appealed to the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to establish a dedicated Plastics Park with world-class infrastructure that would enable MSMEs to set up manufacturing units. The industry also requires 250 acres for a recycling cluster with a CETP.

He urged both States to encourage investments in infrastructure, water management, packaging and medical plastics.

The four-day international exhibition is being organised by the Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA) and features over 550 exhibitors, the organisers said.
