A man who was painting an advertisement on a roadside wall near the East Coast Road (ECR) signal at Vettuvankeni was killed after a car rammed a parked vehicle which fell on him, on Sunday. He succumbed to his injuries at a government hospital early Monday. The car was allegedly driven by a drunk motorist.
The deceased was identified as Ezhumalai, 50, of Karpaga Vinayaka Nagar. The police said he was painting the advertisement around 8 a.m. when the driver of the car - Kuraloviyan - allegedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed the parked vehicle.
The impact pushed the parked car onto Ezhumalai, knocking him to the ground. He sustained injuries to his left hand, left leg, head and left side of his waist.
Ezhumalai was rushed to a government hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment early on Monday.
Based on information from the hospital, personnel from the Traffic Investigation Wing, Adyar, visited the scene and registered a case on a complaint. The police are investigating the incident and said the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
