I have entered my thirties; technically, I did that last year. But when you enter this phase of life, something suddenly shifts.

You are no longer as young as someone in their early twenties, nor are you as old as someone in their late forties. You find yourself somewhere in the middle. And that middle ground can feel chaotic.

Personally speaking, I felt that chaos. The sudden lower back pain, unexplained tiredness, becoming a little more cranky and easily irritated; everything felt different. Your habits change, your lifestyle evolves, and finding a balance between the two becomes necessary.

I am not trying to paint a dull picture of your thirties. In fact, it can be one of the most exciting phases of life. But the reality is that your body, mind, and priorities start demanding a little more attention.

My 30s reset started with cold showers, matcha and a daily run.

For years, I heard people say, “Your thirties are the best years of your life.” I always wondered, “Okay, I am excited. Let’s see what happens.”

But when you actually step into your early thirties, you realise life goes through its own little identity crisis. For some, it feels like a midlife crisis; for others, it is simply a period of adjustment.

I went through it too. Maybe, in some ways, I am still going through it. But did I do something to make things better? Yes, I did. I made one simple change that transformed my everyday life: I completely changed my morning routine.

A NEW ROUTINE, A NEW BEGINNING

I decided to create a routine that actually suited my lifestyle and, more importantly, one that I could follow consistently. I did not expect dramatic results. I simply wanted my mornings to feel less rushed and more intentional. But the outcome genuinely surprised me.

Instead of waking up at 8 am, I started getting up at 6:30 every morning. That extra hour and a half completely changed the pace of my day.

I no longer woke up feeling stressed, checking the clock repeatedly and rushing to get ready for work. My mornings finally belonged to me.

The first thing I did after waking up was drink a glass of water and spend a few minutes writing in a notebook. Some mornings, it was a simple affirmation. On other days, it was just one encouraging sentence: “You’ve got this.”

Initially, it felt awkward. But after a week, it became something I genuinely looked forward to.

Starting my day with a positive thought subtly changed my mindset before I even checked my phone or opened my laptop.

RUNNING HELPED ME WAKE UP

The second habit I introduced was the morning movement. Every day between 6:45 and 7:30 am, I either go for a run or a brisk walk.

The first few days were difficult. Waking up earlier and exercising felt like I was fighting years of routine and comfort. My body resisted the change.

But after the initial struggle, it became easier. The biggest difference was not physical; it was mental.

By the time I reached work, I already felt awake, refreshed and energised instead of sleepy and sluggish. That morning movement stayed with me throughout the day and helped me approach work with a clearer mind.

THE INTRODUCTION TO COLD SHOWERS

The third habit I introduced was taking cold showers. And this was probably the toughest one because I have always loved hot showers.

But a cold shower in the morning gave me an instant boost of alertness. The sudden exposure to cold activates the body’s stress response, increasing heart rate and stimulating the nervous system.

It helped shake off morning grogginess, making me feel more awake and focused. It also gave me a sense of freshness and helped build mental resilience by teaching me to embrace small moments of discomfort.

Something as simple as stepping into cold water became a daily reminder that not every challenge needs to be avoided.

BREAKFAST WITH A MATCHA AND NOT COFFEE

I replaced coffee with matcha, although, to be fair, this was a change I had made much earlier.

The biggest difference I noticed was that the bloating I often experienced after drinking coffee disappeared. Matcha gave me a calmer, steadier energy boost without the sudden crashes I used to feel.

I also changed the way I looked at breakfast. People often say breakfast should be the biggest meal of the day. Instead, I focused on balance rather than quantity.

A still of my matcha.

My plate usually included eggs, fruits, greens, and enough food to keep me full without making me feel heavy or sleepy. It turned out to be one of the most effective changes I made.

That familiar afternoon sluggishness almost disappeared, and I felt much more consistent throughout the workday.

HOW MY THIRTIES ARE ABOUT RESETTING

Entering your thirties does come with changes. Your body starts giving you signals, your priorities shift, and your old habits may no longer work the same way. But that does not mean life becomes boring or difficult.

For me, the answer was not a major transformation. It was a series of small, consistent changes: waking up earlier, moving my body, embracing discomfort, choosing better food, and creating a routine that worked for me.

My mornings became more than just a race against time. They became a space where I could focus on myself before the world demanded my attention.

And maybe that is what your thirties are really about: not becoming a completely different person, but becoming a better version of yourself, one small habit at a time.
