The principal of a Kittur Rani Channamma Residential School was caught by the Karnataka Lokayukta Police while allegedly accepting a bribe from the father of a female student seeking admission to the school at Hunasekatte village in Bhadravathi taluk on Monday (July 20).

The accused has been identified as Namadev.

According to the Lokayukta Police, Meghraj C., a tender coconut vendor and resident of Tiplapura Camp in Bhadravathi taluk, wanted to admit his daughter to class 7 at the school. The principal allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from him as a bribe, purportedly on the pretext of purchasing a drum set for the school.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Mr. Meghraj approached the Shivamogga Lokayukta Police Station on July 18 and lodged a complaint. As part of the trap, the complainant agreed to pay ₹10,000 as an advance. When Namadev was allegedly accepting the amount from Mr. Meghraj in his room at the residential school at around 12.20 p.m., the Lokayukta police team raided the place and caught him red-handed.

The police seized the bribe amount and took the accused into custody for further investigation. The probe is being conducted by Shivamogga Lokayukta Police Inspector Rudresh K.P., the Superintendent of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta, Shivamogga, said in a press release.
