Members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) and allied organisations staged a protest at Ramaswamy Circle here on Tuesday (July 21), condemning the police lathi-charge and use of tear gas against protesters during the ‘Samsad Chalo’ march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament.

AIDSO district president Chandrakala alleged that students and youth participating in the march were demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in Central examinations. She criticised the police for denying permission to the march despite it having been announced well in advance, and said the right to protest is a fundamental democratic right.

Police action was undemocratic: AIDSO

Alleging that the police action was undemocratic, she appealed to students across the country to raise their voice against the crackdown and the Centre’s handling of the issue.

All India Mahila Samskrutika Sanghatane (AIMSS) district vice-president Seema demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister, alleging that he had failed to ensure transparency in Central examinations. She also condemned the alleged police excesses against women protesters.

All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) district president Sunil described the police action as a “brutal attack” on students and youth and alleged that the Centre was attempting to suppress protests over the alleged NEET question paper leak. He called for the abolition of the National Testing Agency (NTA), alleging that it had failed to conduct examinations fairly.

AIDSO district decretary Nitin, office-bearers of AIDSO, AIDYO and AIMSS, along with students from various colleges, participated in the demonstration.
