Rated R, The Odyssey — which runs 2 hours and 52 minutes — was projected to $124.5 million from 3,919 North American theaters in its opening frame July 17-19, but the final box office numbers released on Monday dropped that tally to $123.5 million.

On Monday, The Odyssey continued to pack crowds into theaters with an $18.6 million in domestic ticket sales. That amount, according to Deadline, earned the film the distinction of being the highest-grossing Monday at North American theaters this year so far. Toy Story 5 previously had the highest-grossing Monday domestically in 2026, when it earned $17.3 million on June 22.

Through Monday, The Odyssey has earned $142.1 million domestically and $140 million internationally for a running worldwide box office tally of $282.1 million. The Odyssey had a production budget of $250 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics’ Score For ‘The Odyssey’ Is Slowly Eroding, But Is Still Holds Record

The reception of The Odyssey by Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience members who voted on the review aggregation site has been stellar, although the critics’ score has been slowly dropping off from a near-perfect start last week.

As of Monday, The Odyssey has a 94% “fresh” critics’ score on RT based on 419 reviews, down from 95% based on 345 reviews on Sunday and 98% based 145 reviews shortly after embargo lift last Wednesday.

Even with the drop, The Odyssey maintains the record for the best reviewed movie from Nolan as a director on RT, but it is now tied for the honor with his crime drama Memento and superhero film The Dark Knight, which also have 94% “fresh” critics’ scores.

With audiences on RT, The Odyssey still holds the top audience score record with a 97% “fresh” score on the site’s Popcornmeter based on 10,000-plus verified user ratings, up 5,000 ratings since Sunday.

Rated R, The Odyssey is playing in theaters and on IMAX and premium large format screens nationwide.
