According to Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported this on Facebook.

"Yesterday, during a face-to-face meeting, we discussed the possibility of securing funding. I thank Minister [Carsten] Schneider and the German delegation for their visit to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. We appreciate the prompt decision to allocate the funds. Restoring the confinement structure is critically important for ensuring nuclear safety in Ukraine and throughout Europe," Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal said.

The German contribution is expected to be deposited into the Chornobyl International Cooperation Account.

During their visit to the Chornobyl plant, the German delegation, led by the Federal Minister for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, inspected the NSC arch and its infrastructure, as well as the new solar power plant on the Chornobyl industrial site, and paid tribute to those who took part in the cleanup of the disaster.

The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant's New Safe Confinement was damaged by a Russian drone strike in February 2025. According to preliminary estimates by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, restoring the structure will cost approximately EUR 500 million.

Earlier, the European Commission, the United States and Norway expressed their readiness to contribute to the funding of the NSC's restoration.
