Renshaw's return

Matt Renshaw last donned his baggy green three and a half years ago against India in Delhi.

Called in as a mid-match concussion replacement for David Warner, Renshaw slotted into the middle order for Australia's second innings, which, essentially, was a disaster.

Australia started day three on effectively 1-62, before losing their last eight wickets for 28 runs, to be bowled out for 113.

Renshaw, included in the touring party for his proficiency against spin, scored 2, and India went on to win by six wickets.

That Australian collapse was one of the most baffling and frustrating in recent memory, with the entire Australian XI seemingly intent on sweeping and reverse sweeping their wickets away.

Anyway, today's venue may as well be a million miles away from that Delhi dustbowl.

And Renshaw will certainly be a lot more confident returning to the team in Mackay against Bangladesh than he did as a mid-match replacement on a rank turner in India.

No other batter has scored more First-Class tons than the two Renshaw has notched at Harrup Park. He's also the leading run scorer at the venue, having struck 321 at an average of 107.

But this is by no means a horses for courses selection — Renshaw was the standout opener in last summer's Sheffield Shield, scoring three tons at an average a tick under 50.

The 30-year-old, who has one century from his 14 previous Tests, now with a golden opportunity to cement a spot at the top of the Australian order.

Australia XI: Renshaw the only change from Darwin

So, just that one expected change for Australia, with Matt Renshaw coming in at the top of the order in place of Jake Weatherald.

Pat Cummins yesterday said Australia was toying with the idea of dropping Nathan Lyon in favour of Scott Boland and an all-out pace attack, but a matter of hours later, it was confirmed the off spinner would hold his place.

That means Australia's big four play consecutive Tests as a quartet for the first time in over a year, despite, Hazlewood aside, looking a fair way off the pace in Darwin. It's tough on Boland.

Josh Inglis, as well, misses out on a run in Mackay, with Marnus Labuschagne surely now only just clinging onto his spot in the team.

** Alex Carey and Beau Webster continue at six and seven, respectively, while Cam Green** will be hoping to build on his drought-breaking ton at five.

Steve Smith with two final chances to score a first-ever Test ton against the Tigers.

Australia XI: Matt Renshaw, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cam Green, Alex Carey, Beau Webster, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
