District Collector Sumit Kumar on Saturday said the administration was committed to completing all ongoing development and welfare works in line with the State government’s priorities, despite Chittoor district facing a rain deficit and drought-like conditions.

Speaking to the media after the Zilla Parishad general body meeting here, the Collector said funds had already been spent on several irrigation projects that were at various stages of execution. “We will ensure their completion, while remaining funds will be monitored, and works will proceed as per norms,” he said.

Referring to some of the pending works, he said that the district would seek necessary approvals from the Panchayat Raj Commissioner and the Chief Secretary to take them forward. Stressing that public utility works would be taken up beyond party lines, the Collector said that anganwadis, schools, and drinking water schemes were identified after a comprehensive survey and consultations with local MLAs and stakeholders to ensure transparency.

He said that Chittoor had been placed in the ‘high-risk’ category for rain deficit, along with Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Annamayya and Tirupati districts. As per past data, poor rainfall had hit sowing and transplanting in the last few years, he said.
