Good things come in threes, and that includes comic book storylines.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, IDW announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin 3. Intended as the last act to the Roninverse, this new miniseries sees TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman reteam with writer Tom Waltz, artists Esau and Isaac Escorza, and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado to tell the story of Casey Marie Jones, daughter of franchise mainstays Casey Jones and April O’Neil. Taught how to be a ninja alongside four new turtlesâOdyn, Moji, Yi, and Unoâthe five will fight to save New York from the Foot Clan.

In the original miniseries, Michelangelo lived in solitude as the last Ninja Turtle after his brothers and Splinter were killed by Shredder’s grandson. Upon returning to New York, he teams with the resistance movement led by the Jones family. Sequels and prequels focus on Mikey’s time out of NYC and Casey Marie teaching the new Turtles what she learned growing up.

Since the original book’s launch in 2020, Last Ronin has become a popular extension of the franchise. Paramount tried to get a live-action movie adaptation off the ground that’s since been canceled, but a video game from Bayonetta creator PlatinumGames is still currently in development. Its momentum has definitely taken Waltz by surprise, as he told Entertainment Weekly there were “high hopes readers would love the story just as much as we loved telling it. Little did we know, that love would be exponentially returned to us and our amazing art teams. […] We’re capping off the main trilogy, and we couldn’t be happier!”

Look for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin IIIâReturn to New York to hit shelves in summer 2027.
