SEOUL, July 27 (Yonhap) -- LG Innotek Co., an electronic component manufacturing unit of LG Group, said Monday its second-quarter net profit soared more than 2,000 percent from a year earlier, driven by strong sales of camera modules and semiconductor substrates.
Net profit for the April-June period rose to 245.8 billion won (US$169.1 million), up 2,057.3 percent from the same period a year earlier, the company said.
Revenue increased 40.5 percent on-year to 5.53 trillion won, marking the company's highest-ever second-quarter sales.
Revenue for the first half of the year reached a record 11.06 trillion won, surpassing 10 trillion won for the first time on a first-half basis.
The company said demand for mobile camera modules remained solid despite the seasonal off-season, while the strong supply continued for high-value semiconductor substrates.
"To respond to surging demand amid the semiconductor boom, we have begun expanding our semiconductor substrate production facility in Vietnam and are also considering additional investments," Chief Financial Officer Kyung Eun-kuk said.
