Camryn Rogers, Josh Liendo among Canadian stars advancing on Day 4 at Glasgow 2026

Kylie Masse, Sade McCreath also move on during Monday's preliminaries

Some of Canada's top track and field athletes were in action at Scotstoun Stadium as athletics competition got underway on Monday at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Reigning world, Olympic, and Commonwealth Games champion Camryn Rogers breezed through qualification in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 68.81 metres, tops among all qualifiers.

Fellow Canadians Jinaye Shomachuk (64.84) and Jillian Weir (63.84) will join Rogers in Tuesday's final.

In the first round of the men's 100m, Canada's Duan Asemota qualified for the semifinals with a time of 10.16 seconds. Fellow Canadian Eliezer Adjibi (10.31) did not advance.

The women's 100m heats featured new Canadian record holder Sade McCreath and teammate Gabrielle Cole. Both Canadians qualified after topping their respective heats, McCreath in 11.33 and Cole in 11.48.

They'll join Canadian Audrey Leduc in the semifinal round, who was one of seven sprinters given a bye.

Canadian swimmers advance

Canada's swimmers were back in action at Tollcross International Swimming Centre for the morning session heats.

Kylie Masse, of LaSalle, Ont., was the top qualifier in the women's 50m backstroke heats, moving on to the semifinals after posting a time of 27.79 seconds. Madison Kryger (28.77), of Niagara Falls, Ont., also earned a spot in the semis.

Josh Liendo was the lone Canadian to advance to the semifinals of the men's 100m freestyle event. The Toronto native – who won gold in the men's 100m butterfly on Sunday – finished his heat in 49.79. Montreal's Antoine Sauve was disqualified while Ben Winterborn, of Kingston, Ont., did not start.

Canada's Sophie Angus advanced to the semifinals of the women's 50m breaststroke with a time of 30.79.

Canadians punching their tickets straight to Monday's finals included Ella Jansen (4:45.19) and Julie Brosseau (4:51.45) in the women's 400m individual medley, as well as Ben Loewen (1:58.87) in the men's 200m butterfly.

Para swimmer Fernando Lu was the fastest in the men's 100m breaststroke SB9 heats, finishing in 1:11.62. Lu's teammate Jack Gill (1:13.65) also qualified for Monday's final, while Alex Elliot (1:17.52) will be a reserve.

Other Canadian results on Monday

  • The women's bowls pairs duo of Kelly McKerihen and Emma Boyd defeated Fiji, winning the sets 8-2 and 6-3.
  • Matt Darsigny, of Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., finished sixth in the men's 71kg weightlifting category. Darsigny had successful lifts of 130kg in the snatch and 155kg in the clean and jerk.
