KIDAPAWAN CITY — Floods spawned by heavy to moderate rains have damaged rice and corn fields and mature rubber trees in Antipas, North Cotabato, a disaster official said.

Joven Deblanco, chief of the Municipal Disaster Risks Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), said that floods and landslides hit the villages of Camutan, Dolores, Datu Agud and Magsaysay on Monday, resulting in crop destruction, the amount of which is still being consolidated.

He said at least 45 families were affected by floods and landslides.

No injuries were reported.

The local government of Antipas addressed the needs of the affected families by distributing food packs.

Antipas Mayor Cris Cadungon warned residents of landslide-prone areas to be on alert and immediately vacate to safer grounds when danger is imminent.

In M’lang town, some trees were uprooted and blocked the roads, disrupting motorists passing the area.

Heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds hit the town past 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Bernardo Tayong, the town’s disaster officer, said they immediately dispatched personnel and equipment to clear the blocked portions, which are now passable./coa
