Range Rover has officially pulled the wraps off the Range Rover GT, confirming it as the fifth model in its lineup and the brand's first dedicated grand tourer. While the production car is still under wraps, the company has revealed its interior for the first time and confirmed that the GT will spearhead a new era for the marque as the first all-electric Range Rover based on the new EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) platform.
Unlike the existing Range Rover Electric, which is based on the MLA platform shared with combustion-engined models, the GT has been conceived around a dedicated EV architecture. Initially, it will be offered as a battery-electric vehicle, with a hybrid powertrain expected to join the range later in its lifecycle.
Designed for effortless long-distance travel
Rather than being another traditional luxury SUV, the GT has been developed around the principles of a grand tourer. Prototype images released by the company show a sleeker, lower-slung silhouette with a coupe-inspired roofline, signalling a departure from the upright stance associated with other Range Rover models.
The car is currently undergoing final validation testing across global markets, wearing a distinctive camouflage pattern inspired by the topographical contours surrounding Gaydon, UK, where Range Rover's design and engineering teams are based. The gold-accented wrap is also intended to hint at the advanced digital technologies underpinning the vehicle.
Range Rover says the GT has been engineered to combine high-speed cruising comfort, electric performance and the off-road capability expected from the brand, positioning it as a luxury EV capable of tackling long journeys with ease.
A minimalist cabin with hidden technology
The biggest reveal is inside, where the GT introduces a fresh interpretation of Range Rover's minimalist design philosophy.
The dashboard adopts a clean, uninterrupted layout centred around a new single infotainment display, accompanied by a compact digital driver's display instead of a traditional instrument cluster. The aim, according to the company, is to reduce visual distractions while making frequently used vehicle functions easier to access.
A slim concealed air vent stretches across the entire width of the dashboard, reinforcing the cabin's horizontal design theme. Another notable feature is a woven textile finish that spans the dashboard, integrating the audio speakers within its structure to create a cleaner, more architectural appearance.
Range Rover says every element has been designed to minimise both visual and acoustic clutter, creating a quieter, more relaxing environment for occupants.
Rear-seat comfort takes centre stage
Beyond the front cabin, the GT has also been engineered with rear-seat occupants in mind. The company claims class-leading second-row legroom, underscoring its focus on long-distance luxury rather than outright sportiness.
The interior follows a warm, contemporary aesthetic with premium materials replacing unnecessary ornamentation, while technology has been integrated discreetly into the cabin instead of dominating it.
First EV on the new EMA platform
The Range Rover GT marks the debut of JLR's new EMA architecture within the Range Rover portfolio. The dedicated electric platform is expected to offer greater packaging flexibility than shared ICE-based architectures while supporting future electrified powertrains.
Production will take place at JLR's Halewood facility in the UK, where the GT will be built alongside internal combustion and hybrid vehicles.
Range Rover's vision for the modern grand tourer
Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, described the GT as a reinterpretation of the grand touring formula, combining the refinement expected of a luxury GT with the versatility traditionally associated with the brand.
He added that the model is intended to deliver effortless electric performance, exceptional long-distance comfort and genuine all-terrain capability, making it the most car-like Range Rover the company has developed while remaining unmistakably part of the Range Rover family.
Range Rover has not yet disclosed technical specifications such as battery capacity, power output, range or charging capabilities. Those details, along with the production version, are expected to be revealed later this year.
