The Yobe State Government has constituted a 15-member technical committee for the establishment of Local Government Development Area Councils, LGDACs, in the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Mai Suleh, on behalf of the state government.

According to the statement, the committee was set up to bring government closer to the people, deepen development at the grassroots, and enhance citizens’ participation in governance.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, approved the committee with the Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, serving as Chairman.

Members of the Committee are: the Speaker, Yobe State House of Assembly; Permanent Secretaries Ministries for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Finance; Budget and Economic Planning; Justice; Local Government Service Commission as well as that of Transport and Energy.

Others are Permanent Secretary Political Affairs; Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters; Director General, Yobe Geographic Information System; Chairman, ALGON, Yobe State Chapter; Chairman, Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers; Barrister Bakura Ba’aba as well as Acting Secretary to the State Government who is to serve as the Secretary of the Committee.

“The committee is tasked with undertaking a comprehensive study and providing objective recommendations for the establishment of LGDACs in the state.

“It will examine the legal, administrative, institutional, financial and developmental implications of the proposal, drawing on national best practices and relevant constitutional provisions,” the statement noted.

According to the statement the recommendations are expected to provide government with an evidence-based framework for informed policy consideration.

“The establishment of the Committee highlights the Yobe State Government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance through inclusive consultation, rigorous technical analysis, and adherence to due process in public policy formulation,” the statement further revealed.
