Apple is rolling out the first developer and public release candidates for macOS 26.6, ahead of the system’s official release. Here’s what’s new.
First macOS 26.6 Release Candidates rolling out
Following five developer and public betas, Apple is now rolling out the first release candidate for macOS 26.6, ahead of the official update that could come as soon as next week.
As readers who follow beta cycles probably know, macOS 26.6 is rather light on new features, focusing instead on bug fixes and improvements.
However, it likely includes one important feature for users planning to upgrade macOS 27 Golden Gate later this year.
The iOS 26.6 RC release notes say the system “optimizes the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27,” so it is likely that macOS 26.6 will do the same. We will update this post once Apple publishes the release notes for macOS 26.6 RC.
Another specific change Apple highlighted in beta 1 was a fix for macOS deprecation notices appearing after some apps were incorrectly identified as Intel-only. Since then, the company has also marked ecosystem and HealthKit issues as resolved, but has shared few other details about the update.
That said, we are looking at today’s release and will report back if we find anything noteworthy. The release build for macOS 26.6 RC is 25G70.

Here’s how to install the macOS Tahoe 26.6 RC:
- Backup your Mac
- Open System Settings
- Go to General ⇾ Software Update
- Click the ‘i’ icon next to Beta Updates
- From the dropdown menu in the top-right, select the macOS Developer Tahoe Beta
- Hit ‘Done’
