Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla

MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said he will follow up with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on the red notice request against former House of Representatives appropriation chairperson and resigned Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, a key figure in the flood control corruption scandal.

An Interpol red notice is a request to all law enforcement agencies worldwide to “locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.”

“They don’t have a red notice yet… I will follow up with Interpol myself,” Remulla, speaking Filipino, said in an interview with DZMM on Wednesday.

“We’ve made in-roads. Our communications continue. We should hear maybe within the next four weeks,” he added.

Co is wanted by the Sandiganbayan over graft and corruption charges in connection with an allegedly anomalous flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.

He is believed to be hiding in Portugal.

When the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for Co’s arrest last November, Remulla announced that the Philippine government had sought an Interpol red notice against the lawmaker. /jpv
