The 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray release of Kane Parsons’ monster hit Backrooms will include the Everything Must Go footage that was included as part of an extended cut of the films that played in theaters earlier this month.

Along with fellow YouTube director Curry Barker’s indie horror blockbusters Obsession, director Parsons’ horror thriller about liminal spaces is one of the most successful films of the summer, given that A24 feature had a modest $10 million production budget.

In Backrooms, Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as Clark, a struggling furniture store owner who enters an interdimensional portal to a haunting maze in the facility’s basement. Renate Reinsve also stars as Clark’s therapist, Mary, who enters the liminal spaces to find him after he encounters a disturbing existence.

Backrooms opened with $81 million at the domestic box office May 29-31, and to date has earned $195.9 million from North American theaters and $188.4 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $384.4 million.

While Backrooms made its debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on July 14, it was of the original theatrical version released in theaters in late May; not the Everything Must Go version that played in theaters over the 4th of July holiday weekend that added 16 minutes of post-credits footage to the film.

As such, fans who were disappointed to learn that the PVOD release did not contain the extra footage will be happy to learn that it will be included as part of the bonus material coming on physical media from A24 in late August.

While A24 has not yet indicated the exact date it will be released, the indie studio has listed the 4K + Blu-Ray for pre-order for $35, or $31.50 for the retail site’s members. A24 notes in the listing for the physical release of Backrooms that the Everything Must Go footage will be part of three hours of bonus features in the disc release of the film.
